If you’re into drag racing history, especially the eastern variety, make plans to be in York Springs, Pennsylvania, this coming weekend for the spring open house at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing, with drag racing as the featured category of competition.
New this year at the museum are special displays on Sox & Martin and the late African-American drag pioneer, Malcolm Durham, in addition to separate displays for Stahl Headers and Jenkins Competition. Header maker Jere Stahl will be on hand to check out numerous historic parts from his company, and a variety of Bill Jenkins’s artifacts will likewise be on display to the public.
Among the historic race cars being shown will be the car depicted above, the E.J. Kowalski dragster out of Reading, Pennsylvania. Others will include the first Old Reliable stocker raced by Dave Strickler, Bud Faubel’s Honker altered-wheelbase Mopar and a Funny Car once raced by Jungle Jim Liberman. The EMMR is also a trove of artifacts from Pennsylvania’s very rich oval-track racing history. The open house begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, and runs through the following day.
