2016 Mitsubishi Outlander front end revealed in new spy image

A new spy image from a shipping yard in Japan has uncovered the fresh face of the updated Mitsubishi Outlander for the firs time.

Posted on Japanese blog Live Door, the photograph gives us an undisguised look at the mid-sized SUV’s overhauled front end, which features the brand’s new X-shaped design theme similar to that previewed by last year’s Outlander PHEV Concept S.

Chrome trim runs from the outer tip of the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander’s sharper headlights, along their lower edges, and down to encompass the repositioned foglights. A broader twin-bar, chrome grille, a thicker black panel to hold the licence plate, a reshaped lower air intake and a new silver splitter complete the updated look.

Images captured earlier this month revealed the Outlander’s refreshed rear styling, which features more angular tail-lights with red graphics, chrome trim beneath the tailgate glass to match the front end, and reshaped tailgate and bumper panels.

Extra plastic and chrome cladding at the lower edges of the door and new alloy wheels designs appear to complete the exterior changes, while Mitsubishi has also suggested the interior will benefit from some upgrades too.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander will make its official public debut at next month’s New York motor show, and Mitsubishi Australia isn’t wasting any time bringing it here, confirming that the updated model will be available in showrooms by mid April within days of its unveiling.

Stay tuned for more information on the updated Mitsubishi Outlander in the coming days.
