The finalists for this year’s World Car of the Year awards have been confirmed ahead of the winners being announced at the 2015 New York motor show.
As with last year’s awards, there’s one main prize (World Car of the Year) and additional gongs for luxury, performance and green vehicles, as well as a design award.
The organising committee’s auditor, KPMG, has announced the 10 finalists for the overall, luxury and performance prizes, with five finalists confirmed in the green and design categories. The finalists in each division will enter a second round of voting, with the top three for each category set to be announced at the 2015 Geneva motor show in March.
Cars from the European Union make up a majority of this year’s nominees, with five contenders in the World Car of the Year, four in the luxury category, seven in the performance ranks, three in the running for the green award, and five contenders for the design prize.
There are three Asian finalists in contention for both the overall and luxury prize, a single entry in the performance category, and two in the running for the green award.
For American manufacturers there are two finalists for the overall trophy, three for the luxury award and two in running for the performance prize. There are no American finalists in either the green or design categories.
