The Willys AW 380 Berlinetta has made its debut at the Bologna motor show and will go into production from early 2015.

A collaboration between two Italian companies, Maggiora and Carrozzeria Viotti, the Willys AW 380 Berlinetta has a body that’s been patterned on the mid-1960s Willys Interlagos.

The Interlagos was in turn a licensed version of the Alpine A108 built by Willys’ Brazilian arm — the same Willys that shot to fame during World War II thanks to military MB, and later civilian CJ, “Jeep“.

Underneath the AW 380′s retro body are Porsche underpinnings, with the car’s 2418mm wheelbase matching that of the first-generation Porsche Boxster. It should be noted that the Alpine/Willys-revival features a body almost 160mm wider and 90mm longer than the Boxster.

Behind the passenger cell is a tuned 3.8-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder boxer engine, likely borrowed from the Porsche 911 Turbo. The motor is strung out longitudinally, and generates 455kW of power and 830Nm of torque.

Power is directed to the rear wheels via a six-speed transmission. This drivetrain, according to its makers, endows the 1350kg AW 380 with a 0-100km/h time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 340km/h.

The AW 380 rides on 19-inch alloys clad in 265/35 rubber up front and 20-inch rims with 345/30 tyres at the rear. A variable-rate hydraulic power steering system is used to guide the front wheels, while ceramic composite brakes at each corner are responsible for bringing things to a halt.

Just 110 copies of the Willys AW 380 Berlinetta will be built, priced from 380,000 euros ($561,000) each.
