What’s New with the 2015 Medium Duty Truck of the Year Running

2015 Medium Duty Truck of the Year

According to Barney Stinson, television’s most lovable playboy, “New is always better.” Of course, all who work in close connection with commercial fleets recognize the shortfall in Stinson’s assessment. While there are plenty of merits to new applications of engineering and technology, manufacturers have also developed a great deal of products that stand the test of time and commercial abuse.

new-is-always-betterAs it were, the running for 2015 Medium Duty Truck of the Year will be decided on the basis of these principles. Among the year’s dozen candidates, fleet managers are promised to see new truck interpretations (like the 2016 Ford F-650) alongside several of the industry’s most trusted machines (like Isuzu’s N-Series, 2012 award winner). And thanks to an online ballot courtesy of Work Truck Magazine, professional fleet managers may cast their Truck of the Year vote now through January 16.

Scheduled for summer release in 2015, reimagined models of the F-650 and F-750 represent a new approach to medium-duty manufacturing. No longer relying on a mix-and-match methodology when it comes to components, all that powers Ford’s top-end F-Series chassis may now be considered an in-house project. From the Power Stroke diesel V8 to the class-exclusive gas V10 and Ford’s original TorqShift® transmission, 2016 models of F-650 and F-750 are poised to make a significant impact on fleet value—particularly when it comes to maintenance and total cost of ownership. Time will tell if the vehicle also makes a splash when it comes to the 2015 Medium Duty Truck of the Year running.

The best-selling low cab forward (LCF) configurations of the last three decades, Isuzu’s N-Series is the medium-duty choice for unparalleled maneuverability. Blending the handling advantages of its form with plenty of options designed to meet various GVWR needs, Isuzu remains the most recognizable name in LCF truck production. The manufacturer’s NPR-XD is honored as the specific entry on 2015’s Work Truck of the Year ballot.

With little time to let your voice be heard, professional fleet managers are encouraged to cast a vote with Work Truck Magazine today.
