Lexus RC F to launch from $145,000 driveaway

The high-performance Lexus RC F coupe will cost $145,000 driveaway when it hits Australia in February.

CarAdvice learned of the price tag through a Lexus representative who was standing alongside an RC F on display at the weekend’s Cavallino Cars and Coffee event in Terrey Hills in Sydney.

A Lexus Australia spokesman told CarAdvice today he could not comment on the $145,000 figure quoted and said the company did not plan to officially announce recommended retail and driveaway pricing for the RC F until early next year.

Given the $145,000 driveaway price tag, it’s likely the Lexus RC F will have an RRP of about $120,000 before on-road costs. The IS F sedan has an RRP of $110,800 and a driveaway price of $135,366 in NSW.

A $120,000 RRP would position the RC F directly against the Audi S5 ($119,900) and slightly above the BMW 435i coupe ($108,530) – models that it blitzes for grunt. The RC F is powered by a new 5.0-litre V8 that produces 351kW and 550Nm – easily outpunching the S5’s 245kW/440Nm supercharged inline-six and the 435i’s 225kW/400Nm turbo six.

The RC F is a more direct performance rival to the likes of the 331kW/430Nm 4.2-litre V8 Audi RS5, 317kW/550Nm twin-turbo inline-six BMW M4 and 373kW/610Nm 6.2-litre V8 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG 507 – all of which are significantly more expensive: the Audi at $156,400, the BMW at $166,430 and the Merc at $159,507.

It wouldn’t be the first time Lexus Australia has sprung a surprise with the pricing of its new coupe. The RC350 launched from $66,000 late last month, positioning it well below its equivalent German rivals and as little as $400 more than the closely related IS350 sedan.
