Subaru is the latest in the latest in a long line of car makers to release a concept car in the virtual world, with the Subaru Viziv GT Vision Gran Turismo soon to make its debut in the PlayStation game Gran Turismo 6.
At first glance, especially at the front, the Subaru Viziv GT bears a passing resemblance to another bewinged all-wheel drive Japanese supercar: the Nissan GT-R. Much of this has to do with the car’s blistered detailing and brutalist looks, but the impression breaks down towards the rear due to the shooting brake-style derriere.
Underneath the Viziv GT’s highly creased virtual bonnet lies a direct injection 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer petrol engine. Allied to the company’s signature engine type are three electric motors: one for the front axle and two for the rear.
All up, the four motors produce a total of 441kW of power and 804Nm of torque. The car’s electronics can mete out the right amount of power from each motor to help the Viziv GT through briskly attacked corners. Torque vectoring lamps built into each fender allows players to see what the car is up to during replays.
Badging on the car indicates that the Viziv GT is intended to be a plug-in hybrid. There’s no word, yet, on its performance figures, electric only range or charging time.
Despite the presence of heavy batteries and almost enough engines to fill a basketball team, weight has been kept to minimum through the use of carbon materials throughout the car, especially in the body structure. The Viziv GT is said to tip the virtual scales at 1380kg.
The Subaru Viziv GT will be available in Gran Turismo 6 soon via an online update to the game.
