Henrik Fisker will return to the motor show spot light with the new Rocket muscle car at the Los Angeles auto show next week.

Co-developed with Galpin Auto Sports, the Rocket will feature a carbon fibre body and is claimed to be the “ultimate American muscle car”.

Aside from those two little nuggets of information, as well as the sketch above, the two parties haven’t revealed much more about their new venture.

Rumours abound though that under the Rocket’s body work will live modified Ford Mustang mechanicals. Circumstantial evidence cited includes the Rocket’s roof line arc, the positioning of the fuel tank opening and the fact that Galpin Auto Sports exhibited a modified version of the next-generation Mustang (above) at the recent SEMA show.

While some might argue about Galpin’s choice of gold-coloured 19-inch alloy wheels and highlights, the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 and its 540kW of power should silence most critics.

It has also been noted that Galpin Auto Sports is an off-shoot of Galpin Motors, which claims to be the “number one volume Ford dealer in the world” for 24 years straight. Galpin also owns dealerships for Aston Martin, Honda, Jaguar, Lincoln, Lotus, Mazda, Subaru, Volkswagen and Volvo vehicles.

When the Rocket debuts next week, it will mark Henrik Fisker’s return to coachbuilding. Before embarking on the troubled journey that was the plug-in hybrid Fisker Karma (above), his company produced the Tramonto, a re-bodied Mercedes-Benz SL, and the Latigo CS, a reimagined BMW 6 Series.
