Sometimes, less is more, and that was certainly the case with the Ghia-built Fiat Jolly. Despite the Jolly’s spartan wicker seats, cloth top (complete with fringe) and absence of glass (aside from the windshield), the Fiat 500 or 600-based runabouts became status symbols for the wealthy, often used as yacht tenders or estate cars. This 1967 Fiat Jolly, for sale on Hemmings.com, is a modern recreation of the original, built from a Fiat 600 powered by the larger 850cc Zastava engine. Seats are vinyl, which may not be period-correct, but is certainly more comfortable, and the beach runabout is said to be in excellent mechanical condition, having been owned by an auto shop. The first Fiat 500 Jolly was produced by Ghia in 1958 for Gianni Agnelli to be added to his 82′ yacht.
Approx. 400 were manufactured and fewer than 100 originals are known to exist. These were built for the elite class costing more than twice the price of a new 500.
The success of the Jolly was such that with a rekindled interest in many of the small classic cars, manufacturers have re-introduced the Jolly in a variation of sizes, and engines ranging from the Fiat 500, Fiat 600, Fiat 850, Fiat 600 Multipla to the Bianchina.
Today’s Jolly are all modified vintage cars still in existence with their availability decreasing each year.
This is a 1967 Fiat 600 modified Jolly equipped with a more powerful 850cc. Fiat Zastava engine. The seats are in an elegant and comfortable vinyl upholstery. It is in excellent mechanical conditions having been owned by an auto shop. It shows beautifully in its sparkling new paint.
