A driver in South Africa rolls over with his F80 BMW M3 and allegedly walks away with a few scratches and bruises. We weren’t able to confirm these allegations with the local newspapers but we’re working on getting a second source.
Judging by the photos, the roof was cut out post the accident, most likely in order to remove the injured driver. If indeed the driver only suffered minor wounds, the cockpit of the new F80 M3 proves to be one of the safest in the market.
BMW claims the new M3’s torsional stiffness is over 40,000 Newton-meters per degree, approaching that of the BMW M3 GTR race car, which used a steel-tube roll cage to reach 46,000 Nm/deg. The stiffness comes in part from the same strut-tower brace.
Stay tuned as we learned more about the crash.
