Watch an Audi RS7 Drive Itself Around a Track at 150 MPH—with Nobody Inside

Self-driving Audi RS 7 on track

The thought of a driverless car hurtling itself around a track at 150 mph sounds like a bizarre racing disaster: What happened to the driver? But just before the DTM season finale at Hockenheim, Audi is making it happen, sending an autonomous RS7 sports sedan careening around the track with nary a human aboard. And you can watch the robotic hot laps right here.

For a preview of the action, check out Audi’s test laps and background videos below. There’s nothing more eerie to a car enthusiast than an empty pile of high-performance metal clipping apexes and barreling down straightaways at high velocity. Truth be told, this robo-Audi probably puts down a faster lap time around Hockenheim than non-professional human drivers could ever hope to achieve.

The main event is scheduled for October 19 at 6:45 a.m. Eastern. Generations from now, historians will refer to that date and time as the dawn of the robot uprising. Watch the stream from Hockenheim here:
