While we don’t see any engine photos for this 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula for sale on Hemmings.com, from the P code in the VIN (and from our sources), it appears that a Pontiac-built 350 – as opposed to an Oldsmobile-built 350 or a Chevrolet-built 350, both of which were inserted into Pontiacs that year – powers this ‘Bird. Given the low miles and the care that the original owner (and now the original owner’s granddaughter) have put into preserving the car, we imagine that it looks just as sharp as the exterior and interior of the car. From the seller’s description:
It’s tough for me to sell this. You’re looking at Grandfathers car. He purchased brand new in 1977, Billings, MT. Since purchased, this Pontiac Firebird Formula gets driven 5-6 times a year, and spends the rest of her time in a garage. This is still the case now that she resides in the Seattle area with me (Granddaughter).
If you went to high school or college on or around 1977 and you wanted a car like this, it’s not too late. Everything is stock outside of the usual maintenance items (tires, oil, and alternator). The mileage textbox is not a typo…she really has 31,320 original miles.
Apparently there is a story behind these 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formulas. There was a large lawsuit won by the consumers against GM during this time. GM was putting Pontiac engines in some, and GM build engines in others. This specific beauty has the GM build 350. Please verify by seeing the VIN #. I’m told the VIN # will prove the engine build.
I could sit here and write a pros and cons list for you, but I think the pros list is better told with pictures (see pics). The cons list is easy…there are two items that I’m aware of. There is a minor crack in the top of the center console, and a crack in the windshield. Both “cons” should be visible in the pictures.
