First Energy Networks (FEN) – a subsidiary of Edaran Tan Chong Motor – and Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the 2014 International GreenTech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) today.

Present at the signing were CEO of GreenTech Malaysia, Ir. Ahmad Hadri Haris and director of FEN, Reza Mutalib. Former Proton MD and Cohesive Mobility Solution (COMOS) executive chairman, Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin, was also present.

With the COMOS EV car-sharing programme set to begin in November, the collaboration seeks to help speed up the expansion of more electric vehicle (EV) charging stations around the country. So far 19 charging stations have been set up by FEN across Malaysia in KL, Johor, Penang and Sarawak.

GreenTech Malaysia, a non-profit organisation under KeTTHA which purpose is to catalyse green tech deployment, will work together with Renault, distributed in Malaysia by TC Euro Cars. The latter is introducing the Zoe, Twizy and Fluence EVs via COMOS. The funky Renault Twizy will be aimed at city tourists, available for rent at popular spots with navigation and voice-guided tours.

Besides FEN, GreenTech Malaysia has also signed MoUs with companies like AMDAC, Kumpulan Melaka Berhad and Eclimo to help drive the development of electric mobility solutions.

With the recent rise in the cost of fuel, it seems like this initiative couldn’t have come at a better time. Read our EV reviews of the Renault Fluence ZE, Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Nissan Leaf to satsify your curiosity.
