BRCC: Maiden win for PK Carsport Audi R8 LMS ultra at Spa-Francorchamps

By Tarek Ramchani

PK Carsport scored a great victory yesterday at Spa-Francorchamps with their brand new Audi R8 LMS ultra. The Belgian Audi Sport customer racing team was impressive in the Belgian Racing Car Championship (BRCC) 3-hour endurance race

The winning #1 Audi was shared by Anthony Kumpen, Bert Longin and Frank Belien. The three drivers finished ahead of the #100 Aston Martin V12 Vantage and the #99 Porsche 997 GT3-R.

After a lot of bad luck in the opening rounds of the BRCC, PK Carsport drivers, team members and the Belgian Audi Club were delighted with this great race win.

Another Audi team entered the BRCC round 5 with an old specification R8 LMS, JB Motorsport from Sweden. The #3 car in the hands of Jan Brunstedt, Mikael Bender and Magnus Dybeck finished in a strong fourth overall and took a fine GTP class victory.

BRCC round 5 results can be seen here.

BRCC: PK Carsport switches to the Audi R8 LMS ultra

By Tarek Ramchani

A great news coming from Belgium, PK Carsport the only Audi team in the BRCC series has switched to the Audi R8 LMS ultra.

The Belgian Audi Sport customer racing team has competed in BRCC with an older specification Audi R8 LMS in 2013 winning the endurance championship and in the opening rounds this year.

PK Carsport was among the fastest and strongest in the field this season however they were not able to target overall victories in a demanding field with teams using new generation GT3 race cars.

Race debut for PK Carsport with the Audi R8 LMS ultra is this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps. The BRCC series supporting the Total 24 Hours of Spa.

The #1 Audi R8 LMS will be driven by the team's regulars Anthonly Kumpen, Bert Longin and Frank Belien.

And as was the case with the old Audi R8 LMS, PK Carsport ultra livery has been made by our friends at Berzerkdesign and the car looks really great.

BRCC: PK Carsport season review

By Johan Laubscher

The Belgian Racing Car Championship saw the return of PK Carsport in 2013. PK's weapon of choice was the Audi R8 LMS and their drivers went on to win the 2013 BRCC Endurance title.

The season review has been compiled from the 2013 Audi Motorsport Blog Weekend Round Up posts. Each round has been added as was seen in the individual Weekend Round Up posts during 2013, which can be accessed via the links throughout the review below:

Test Day: Zolder

The Belgian BRCC held an official test day at Zolder on Friday. Two Audi R8 LMS cars took part. The PK Carsport R8 LMS is a full season BRCC competitor, whereas the Belgian Racing Team (MOMO-Megatron-dF1) R8 LMS used the test day to prepare for the upcoming ELMS season.

Round 1: Zolder

The Belgian Racing Car Championship (BRCC) was a support event at Zolder this weekend. The PK Carsport Audi R8 LMS debuted at the event. The team performed well and won the ninety minute endurance race on Sunday.

Round 2: Dijon

The Belgian Racing Car Championship (BRCC) held round two in France this weekend. One Audi team was entered for the event at Dijon, that of PK Carsport. The team was victorious in the endurance event at Zolder, round one of the championship. The team performed very well this weekend and finished the race in fourth place, third in class.

Round 3: Spa-Francorchamps

The Belgian Racing Car Championship (BRCC) also held its third round at Spa this weekend. The PK Carsport Audi R8 LMS qualified on the front row and did very well during the race, finishing in third place.

Round 4: Spa-Francorchamps

The Belgian Racing Car Championship (BRCC) was at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend. They hosted round four of the series as a support event for the Spa 24 Hours. PK Carsport was there and achieved very good results. The team achieved pole position for the BRCC race at Spa, which was held on Friday afternoon, before the Spa 24 Hours Superpole. They were over a second ahead of the field during the wet qualifying session. The hour-long race itself saw the PK Carsport squad converting pole into a solid finish. Third place overall and yet another podium finish and good points for the season.

Round 5: Spa-Francorchamps

The Belgian Racing Car Championship headed to Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, for the 600 km of Spa, round five of the season. PK Carsport was entered with their #7 Audi R8 LMS, with drivers Anthony Kumpen, Bert Longin and Maarten Makelberge. They qualified in third place and finished the endurance event on the podium in third as well.

Round 6: Zolder

The finale of the Belgian Racing Car Championship was held at Zolder this weekend. PK Carsport arrived with their drivers leading the championship. PK Carsport has been an all-season competitor in the BRCC, fielding their #7 Audi R8 LMS driven Anthony Kumpen, Bert Longin and Maarten Makelberge. The trio had retaken the lead in the BRCC endurance championship standings following the last round at the 600 km of Spa in September. They arrived at Zolder with a mere five point lead in the driver’s standings. PK Carsport was also in the hunt for the team’s title, as they were in third place, just three points behind the leaders. They qualified third on the gird for the race at Zolder, taking position three behind the two GPR Aston Martin Vantage GT3 cars. The finale arrived on Sunday with high drama during the morning. News of possible sabotage emerged from the PK Carsport pits. This came after the PK Carsport engineers discovered that sticker seals, placed on the car the night before, had been broken. This raised the suspicion that the car might have been tampered with during the night, and with the title fight hanging in the balance, the PK Carsport team worked hard on Sunday morning to thoroughly check the car and replace many components. After the morning's drama the race got underway on Sunday afternoon. PK Carsport finished the season by taking second place overall by the end of the race, finishing behind the #100 GPR Aston Martin. This result was enough to crown the PK Carsport driving trio as the 2013 BRCC Endurance champions.

BRCC: PK Carsport winning debut with Audi at Zolder

By Tarek Ramchani

PK Carsport is one of the most prestigious and successful sportscar teams from Belgium. The team was revived this year after many years of absence. They have chosen to compete in the Belgian Racing Car Championship with the Audi R8 LMS.

Last weekend Circuit Zolder hosted the first round of the BRCC, a support event to the FIA GT Series. It was a perfect debut for PK Carsport with Audi. They qualified in fifth place. With the 2010 spec R8 LMS (ex Team Rosberg) of Anthony Kumpen, Bert Longin and Maarten Makelberge they won the 90 minutes endurance race, less than five seconds ahead the second placed Porsche 996 GT3-RS from ProSpeed Competition.

Anthony Kumpen, who also raced in the FIA GT Series on the same weekend with Phoenix Racing, was delighted after this fantastic victory: "I am very happy to finish this superb weekend on the highest step of the podium." (quotes sourced from BRCC)

The second round of the BRCC will be in France at Circuit Dijon-Prenois in May, with the three PK Carsport Audi drivers leading the overall points standings.

Two Audi R8 LMS at BRCC Zolder Test Day

By Johan Laubscher

The Belgian Racing Car Championship (BRCC) held their official test day at Zolder on Friday. Two older Audi R8 LMS were entered for the test.

PK Carsport has entered one red and white Audi R8 LMS as a full season BRCC entry. The team has completed a number of pre-season testing sessions and also attended the official BRCC test day. More can be read about the team HERE.

The second Audi R8 LMS was listed on the test day entry list as Belgian Racing. On the day it emerged that the car was indeed the MOMO-Megatron-dF1 R8 LMS, which will be seen in the ELMS this year. Dylan Derdaele is one of Belgian Racing drivers and he is also listed as one of the Momo ELMS drivers. Thus the team used the Zolder test day as a testing opportunity for the Audi R8 LMS ahead of the first ELMS round at Silverstone. More can be read about the team HERE.

The first BRCC round will take place at Zolder on the FIA GT Series weekend. So far only one Audi is entered for the event, the single R8 LMS from PK Carsport.
