OnePlus has a smart TV on the mind.
Now that OnePlush has established itself as an important player in the smartphone industry, they are setting sights on another category of tech: TVs. OnePlus announced over the weekend that they are going to make a OnePlus TV that fits into the smart TV category.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau will lead this new division, where they’ll attempt to balance “high-quality hardware with the latest in technology, developing a seamless user experience, and crafting hardware that is minimalistic and timeliness in design.” Lau wants to make it easier for you to share photos from your phone to your TV. Apparently, he doesn’t know about Google Cast?
All jokes aside, OnePlus says they are only taking the initial steps to create a smart TV, so it could be some time before they ever release a product you can buy. This early of a tease is a bit odd, if I’m being honest. I’m also not sure I see a big need for another TV maker that makes good-enough products with really good prices and includes some form of a smart UI. There are dozens of those already in the TV market.
