The Top 3 Features of the New Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van

Recently, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the third-generation Sprinter in Duisburg. According to the company, the van is already available for order and the the deliveries will start in June this year.

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter may not be at par with the luxuries provided by the cars of its brand, but its range is designed to adapt to the needs of different buyers. The passenger van provides different approaches to cater to the requirements of its owner. It can be used to ship products or as a convenient mode of transportation to people.

Here are the highlights of the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter:

1. Performance

There are plenty of drivetrains offered by the Sprinter. It is available in front-wheel and rear-wheel drive systems.

For those who are looking for the most power out of the Mercedes van, they can choose the 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine capable of delivering 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque at 1,600 to 2,600 rpm.

Then, there is the 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine with multiple outputs to select from, such as 114 hp, 105 hp, 163 hp (only for the rear-wheel drive model) and 177 hp (only for the front-wheel drive model). Mercedes noted that the most powerful variant of the power unit is exclusive for the camper van segment of the Sprinter.

The output of the Mercedes Sprinter is governed by either a 9-speed automatic torque converter transmission or 6-speed manual transmission.

An electrified version of the Sprinter was also shown. The company didn’t release any vital information about it yet, except that it will be called the “eSprinter”.

2. Design

The overall look of the Sprinter hadn’t changed much since its second-generation series. Only minor tweaks in its aesthetics were applied to mirror the new “sensual purity” design language of Mercedes.

Examining closely will reveal more polished body lines and smoother surfaces. The lighting system, bumpers and grille were given significant styling upgrades.

3. Tech

There are a lot of new safety and assistance systems introduced in the new Sprinter. The most notable piece of tech that can be fitted to the van is a 10.25-inch infotainment display. It works harmoniously with the new MBUX interface. There is the Mercedes PRO connect too that will allow fleet managers to monitor their units wherever they are.

The other options include the Distance Control DISTRONIC, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, ATTENTION ASSIST, and Parking package with 360-degree camera. The Crosswind Assist and Traffic Sign Assist come as standard in the van.
