Dead Zebra’s famous Android Mini series gets a new face this year in the form of the festive Ginger Gene. Available for $12 on his own, Gene sports a gingerbread texture that conjures up images of family tradition, while also celebrating the milestone that is Android 2.3, the version that Google affectionately termed Gingerbread. The 3 inch vinyl figure is painted with a delightful smirk, and is wearing a green tie made of real ribbon. He also has a distinctive gingerbread scent, but you can’t use it to make your entire house smell warm and inviting unless the place is somewhat small; Dead Zebra has a limit of four per household. Dead Zebra’s Android Mini figurines have a long tradition of professional design, especially for limited edition units, and this one is no exception. It was designed by “Creatures in my Head” artist Andrew Bell, with the help of Dyzplastic, Dead Zebra’s special department for limited-edition figurines.
Gene was available alongside the discontinued Bingle Bear for another $8 at the time he debuted, but those have since sold out. This means that your only option for an add-on to your purchase is a display stand. Those come in square and hexagonal shapes, each in black and white color variants. Adding a stand to your purchase will only tack on $3. Orders containing Ginger Gene are expected to begin shipping out some time around the beginning of December, and the processing and shipping of those orders is likely to continue into the next week after.
Dead Zebra has been crafting Android Mini figurines for a number of years, and have become one of the biggest names in Android-themed merchandise. The company has created Android Mini figurines based on Android websites and special holidays in the past, and has even created giant Android figures in the past. Aside from Android Mini figurines, the company also makes commemorative glassware, apparel, prints, posters, and even some adult picture books. While Android collectibles come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, materials, and quality levels, Dead Zebra’s vinyl mini figurines are widely considered to be among the higher-quality collectibles out there for hardcore fans of Google’s mobile OS and its distinctive mascot.
