The concept of a mobile authenticator is simple. As long as you have 2FA set up, whenever you try to log in to one of those services it will ask for a six digit code that you can only get from your authenticator app. This is useful in that even if your password gets compromised, no one can log into your account without having access to your device, too. It’s not a cure all for security, but it’s an excellent tool to have.
The app itself is completely free and runs independent of a LastPass subscription, so even if you’re not a premium subscriber you can still take advantage of setting up two factor authentication on all of your accounts.
