When the governor of Missouri declared a state of emergency due to heavy rains and flooding associated with Tropical Depression Bill, it looked as if the Great Race-opening Hagerty Trophy Run might not go off as scheduled this year. Despite the conditions, however, the event is proceeding as planned. As Matt Litwin reports from the event:
The preliminary Great Race rally, the Hagerty Trophy Run, is officially underway amid a relentless drivings rainstorm. With a state of emergency in place and flash flood warnings posted in the Kirkwood region, Great Race officials report that the rally route has not yet been impacted. Several teams have opted to attempt the rally while others are staying put.
Also announced at this morning’s meeting is that this year’s Great Race Grand Champion will win a trip to Japan to participate in the Rally Nippon in November; food and hotels are covered and a car is provided, but the winner needs to cover airfares.
Here are some scenes from day two of this year’s Great Race.
