Here we thought all the Surreys left in the world had been perfectly restored by now, as impossible as that might seem, but that’s not the case, as we see from this 1961 Willys DJ-3A Surrey for sale on Hemmings.com. It looks as though somebody had tried converting it to four-wheel-drive before abandoning the project, and it likely wouldn’t still be around today (or would’ve been consigned to plow Jeep status) if it weren’t for those remnant of the striped fringe top still attached to the windshield. Bonus – it comes with a couple other rigs to help the restoration along. From the seller’s description:
3 DJ3A Willys vehicles included: 1. A 1961 stock DJ3A numbers matching, running, driving, partially restored DJ3A, weak body, painted poorly, military drab. 2. A REAL pink repairable Willys Surrey body, just like in the Elvis movies, about 1100 produced and the only one I’ve owned in chasin’ Willys 40 years. 3. A 1960 DJ3A Dispatcher body and chassis parts vehicle. Not much here, but these are very scarce and I’ll bet you’ll use some stuff from it. This is a PROJECT. Great builder for a Grandpa, Son, Grandson and worthwhile vehicle that can be done with common tools. Start with the Military Drab DJ3A, fix it a little and enjoy driving it while you weld in available repair panels on the pink Surrey body. Then mount the Pink Surrey body on the Military chassis. You’ll have about 75 percent of a real Surrey and many rare DJ3A parts to trade for the Surrey parts you need while driving your project.
