A facelift for the American Ford Fusion sedan, known in the rest of the world as Ford Mondeo, has been spotted by our spy photographers on the streets of Detroit.
Although the Mondeo has just gone on sale across Australia after a much delayed introduction in Europe, the Fusion sedan actually went on sale in North America in 2012 and is rapidly approaching the half-way point of its current model cycle.
With its disguise in place, it’s hard-to-tell what changes Ford is planning to make to the Fusion/Mondeo’s front end. Given that the entire middle section is untouched, updates will likely be limited to a new front bumper, a revised grille and reworked headlights.
At the rear, we can see modified tail-lights that are now bisected by a chrome spear. Underneath that there will be a modified rear bumper, which, unlike this prototype, is likely to feature integrated exhaust tips.
It’s expected that the updated Ford Fusion sedan will go on sale throughout North America during 2016. It’s not yet clear when the facelift will be applied to the European built Mondeo.
