Maruti’s new launch, the Ciaz, has a waiting period of nearly 3 months in major metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The news is no different in smaller Tier II cities where the sedan has a minimum waiting period of a month.
The Ciaz was launched earlier this month and competes with the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
Dealers of Maruti-Suzuki are first delivering cars to customers who pre-ordered it. According to the company, the Ciaz received more than 10,000 bookings even before its market launch on October 6. However, Maruti anticipated this demand and started production of the car as early as August this year. Yet, there seems to be a demand-supply gap, which is traditionally associated with any new product launch, and more so for Marutis.
Of the 10,000 initial orders, 60 percent are for the diesel variant and the rest for petrol.
The diesel Ciaz is currently India’s most fuel efficient car with an efficiency of 26.21 km/l. The 1.3-liter DDiS engine generates 88.7 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, and comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The 1.4-liter K-Series petrol engine is good for 91.14 bhp and 130 Nm of torque, and can be had with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The manual variant delivers a mileage of 20.73 km/l and the automatic claims 19.12 km/l.
