If anything, this 1965 Ford Mustang for sale on Hemmings.com, built as a tribute to the SCCA Trans-Am Mustangs of the Sixties, shows that it doesn’t take a lot of fabrication or re-engineering (or big dollar outlay) to build a streetable, potentially raceable, old car. It relies on proven building blocks – a mildly hopped-up 289-cu.in. V-8 backed by a C-4 automatic transmission, along with a combination of aftermarket suspension bits and 16-inch wheels – to ensure it performs well, and a sprinkling of Shelby parts among the vintage decals to give it the look of a Trans-Am racer. The seller doesn’t mention whether it’s been raced, but it appears that it would do as well on a track as on the street. From the seller’s description:

Ivy Green paint, repainted 20+ years ago. Paint has small chips and is lightly cracked from age, but it is a nice patina look. Shelby front valance, fiberglass side scoops and riveted on hood scoop, hood and trunk pins. Vintage race mirror and headlight stone guards. Flat black stripes and vinyl number decals. Currently all of the vinyl decals are on the car, but they can easily be removed to make it your own!!!
Original seats and carpet . New headliner. 4 point roll bar and drivers harnesses. Shelby Cobra tach, Stewart Warner minor gauges. Vintage wood steering wheel. Gauges and lights work as they should. Kicker PXi50.2 iPod radio, Pioneer 6.5″ speakers.
