BMW i sub-brand is becoming an important revenue source for BMW Group in the United States. Just after a few months after the launch of the i3 and i8, the monthly sales of the two green cars account for almost 6 percent.
More specifically, after delivering 1,000 plug-ins a month, the BMW i3 and a few i8 cars, accounted for 4.8% of all BMW passenger cars sold in the U.S. in August and 5.7% in September.
In comparison, the Nissan Leaf EV accounts for 5.1% of all Nissan cars sold in the United States.
In 2013, BMW sold 309,280 units in the U.S. and it’s target to beat that number in 2014. If the BMW i sales rise to close to 10 percent, the hefty investment in the new sub-brand will slowly pay off.
