Summer Bases That Stand Up To The Heat

We've still got another month or two of intense heat here in the Midwest, so I've got to make sure that I'm using base products on my face that won't melt off within an hour. I don't tend to wear quite as much makeup in the summer but I still like to look my best. Through lots of trial and error, I've discovered a handful of foundations that not only make your skin look flawless, but can also stand up to the heat.

For a lighter base, I love using Tarte's Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer. It gives a great amount of coverage for only being a BB cream, plus it's super hydrating without feeling greasy. Whenever I use this, it never feels like I'm actually wearing anything with is a huge plus in the summer. Another light option is MAC's Mineralized Skinfinish Natural. This works great as a setting powder in the summertime if you're going for a full coverage look, but you can always wear a light dusting all over the face for a bit of color and tone correction. Since this is a mineral powder, it feels extremely light on the skin and stays in place all day long.

A good medium coverage base is the new Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation from Maybelline. The finish is what I like best about this - it's a demi-matte, so you don't look oily but you don't look flat either. When applied with a damp beauty blender, it gives a great amount of coverage and dries for a flawless look that lasts all day. Another unique feature about this foundation is that it's super hydrating, something that you don't typically see with matte bases. I love how this feels on my skin because it really helps with dryness instead of making it worse.

For full coverage, I have two drugstore foundations that totally knock it out of the park. The first is L'Oreal's Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation, a full coverage liquid foundation that dries to a lightweight, demi-matte finish. This is a good one for everyday wear because, although it's full coverage, it feels fairly lightweight and doesn't get cakey. If you're planning on wearing a full face of makeup and want a flawless complexion, I suggest using the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation. This is one of the best drugstore bases I've ever tried, and it even works for someone with dry skin like mine. I always apply it with a damp beauty blender for the best results. It covers up every imperfection (acne, redness, scaring, dark circles, etc.), dries to a matte finish, and stays looking fresh until you take it off at night.
