Vintage decals on a nostalgia drag racer, road racer, Day Two car or any vintage ride can provide a personal touch and yet another reason for people notice your car and/or start up a conversation. Over the years, I’ve seen plenty at shows on various vehicles depicting speed parts (some of which were contingency stickers for different forms of motorsports), dyno tuning, speed shops, race tracks and/or events.

I find myself lingering at those cars at shows and appreciating the decals’ patina, period fonts and art. Many times I take a photo of the decals for later reference. To that end, here’s a gallery of greats for your perusal. It contains 22 photos (counting those in the article) with more than 60 different decals, not counting repeated ones.

In recent years, some aftermarket parts companies and speed shops have resumed producing decals that resemble theirs from a bygone era, so they look more at home on a vintage car. Advantages of the new old-style decals is that you can try them out on your car’s windows or bumper or under the hood on the fenderwells or firewall etc. and if you decide you don’t like them, you can always just peel them off again and you haven’t wasted time or much if any money. You may even want to stick them to vinyl magnet sheet material cut to the shape of the decal. This way they can be applied and removed from any metal surface of the car easily and you can change their placement regularly to suit your mood.

What thought-provoking decals have you had on your vintage cars—proudly stating the company names of parts you installed or tracks you frequented or classes you have won etc.? Even if you have never had decals on your own vintage rides, tell us about those you have seen on other cars that you thought were interesting.
